When Greg Vetter our CEO challenged Tessemae’s with the Whole 30 I was excited. I have been wanting to try it since jumping on board with the Tessemae’s team. It seemed fitting after indulging during the Holidays. Then I started to read the Whole 30 book and got a little concerned and thought this looks hard.
Just a little bit about my background on food… I LOVE IT! I grew up in a Hispanic culture where let’s just say we never heard the words “portions” or “clean.” My grandparents would be concerned if we didn’t have extra meat on us :). It wasn’t until I was in college where I realized what healthy actually meant (not Honey Nut Cereal). Over the years working in the produce industry I have grown on becoming a healthier person. I still have to fight my inner fat kid desires.
Now back to starting Whole 30… prepping was key. I went to Costco (mostly for meat/veggies) and Whole (Epic, La Croix’s, almond butter, cashews… Etc.). It’s helpful to have a few recipes’ too. I ate pretty bland the first days and had to spruce things up with seasonings and Tessemae’s dressings.
Now being Day 18 on Whole 30 I am on a flight to Denver for a meeting. I packed an Epic bar, almonds and bought a banana at the airport (still satisfied). My choice prior to Whole 30 would have been a bacon croissant or burrito. A few things that have helped is I got my roommates on board, they started a little later but I didn’t have to struggle with having delicious temptations lying around the house. I have enjoyed finding ways to cook clean and it still be good. I am not much of veggie or salad type of eater but I have found ways to make it enjoyable. One of my deep cravings has been for chips. I made zucchini buffalo baked chips and they were yummy!
Overall the journey has not been easy the bloating day 6-7(buy stretchy jeans), extra sassy (ask my co-workers), and the time and effort into checking labels and prepping. It has been worth it. I feel better, I don’t get the afternoon sluggish feeling anymore, my friends have told me my complexion is clear
